iPad's at Universitys

Central Michigan University is making a change in the way their students learn. They are challenging the university professors to pick books that can be downloaded on amazon to an ipad. This would save the students money, also they would always have their textbook with them in class. Senton Hill University in Pennsylvania is planning on providing first year students with an iPad. They feel like an iPad would help students be prepared for the 21st century workforce. I think that both of these Universities have great ideas of incorporating technology into their classroom. There is a growing number of high schools that have a 1 + 1 program with technology but, colleges and university are still stuck writing out notes on with a pen and paper. I think change should occur from the universities and go down, not the other way around.

E-Learning for Students on Health

Bluekids.org is a website that students and educators can go to for a source on health education. Bluekids was created by a children's health center. Bluekids was created to bring health education to students in an engaging way. There are e-learning programs for students in grades K-8. Some of the topics covered in the e-learning sites to choose from are obesity, drug abuse, respiratory system, bullying prevention, body systems, nutrition, and mood management. Once a student or teacher decides which class they want to use they can then register or do a free preview. After looking at the free preview of the class on body systems there is a lot of useful information. Students would be able to learn information while playing interactive games. I think that this would be a very helpful tool in my Health classroom for my visual learning students.

Collaborize Classroom

Collaborize Classroom is a free site I found that teachers can go to and set up a sifter for their classroom. Once a site is set up for the class the teacher can then start a discussion thread that students can respond to in four different way. The teacher has the options of choosing a forum, a vote, multiple choice, or yes or no responses. After a student posts their response to the initial discussion there is a place where students and the teachers can go to comment or vote on the post. After all of the students have complete the discussion there is also a section where the results are shown. This would be a very helpful site for students to collaborate in groups. They would be able to write on the discussion board andcomment on their group members posts. It would also be helpful to have students quickly take a poll to find out the answers instantly. It may help start a lesson for that day.

Physical Education: Fitness Not Competition

With today growing rates of obesity physical education is continually changing to make students more active. In the video i found it is showing how physical education is changing from competition driven to fitness driven. The teachers that were interviewed have incorporated adventure activities into their classroom. Activities they use are rock wall climbing, and team building activities have changed the focus from students wanting to win to students trusting their peers to help them succeed. By using these type of skills like, communication, trust, and cooperation students will be able to translate those skills into the classroom. The video also shows how to incorporate physical activity into the classroom. One teacher had a stationary bike in her classroom that created energy. Her students could go over and ride the bike whenever they felt like it during class. Another teacher did yoga with her students as a break during class.
